Over the Rainbow - Music of the 30s

The Saint John Chorale, directed by Spencer Belyea, presents a cabaret evening, featuring swingin' music, decadent desserts and a silent auction.
Portland United Church. 7:30 pm. Tickets $12, available from Saint John Chorale members and at the door.

April 26 - FREDERICTON
Spring Concert

The Bel Canto Singers present choral music drawn from the styles and cultures of Britain, Ireland, Latin America, Russia, Continental Europe, Southeast Asia and more.
St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church. 7:30 pm. Tickets $15 adults, $10 students/seniors, $30 families w/small children.

May 4 - FREDERICTON
Spring Concert

The Fredericton Choral Society and Fredericton Chamber Orchestra offer a wonderful assortment of opera choruses and overtures by composers such as Verdi, Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Rossini and Bizet from operas like Carmen, La Traviata and MacBeth. Soloists are Leticia Brewer and Alexander Good.

May 9 - MONCTON
Spring Concert

Le Choeur Harmonia Mundi, a mixed choir under the direction of Larry LeBlanc, present Acadian folk songs, sacred music and such works as the English madrigal  "Adieu, sweet Amaryllis;" "Jack Monoloy" by Quebec songwriter Gilles Vigneault; Danse tchécoslovaque; and the Scottish folk song "Will Ye No Come Back Again?" Last December the choir was a guest on Anne Godin's Radio-Canada program "Anne et compagnie" and later this spring will be representing New Brunswick at the fourth annual international Mondial Choral Loto-Quebec in Laval (June 20-29).

May 12 - SAINT JOHN
National Youth Choir

The 2008 National Youth Choir, directed by Dr. Julian Wachner and featuring four of New Brunswick's finest young choristers, will hold its first New Brunswick concert in Saint John on the evening of Monday, May 12. The sponsoring choir, Saint John Chorale, is looking for billets in the area. Please call Spencer Belyea in Saint John at 652-8235.

May 13 - FREDERICTON
National Youth Choir

The National Youth Choir, directed by Dr. Julian Wachner, comes to Fredericton the following day for an evening concert. Billets are needed for Fredericton &emdash; please contact the Cathedral office at 450-8500.

Welcome New Brunswick

This opening concert will feature the Hillsborough Alumni Choir, directed by Ruth Schiller, and Les jeunes chanteurs d'Acadie, directed by Nadine Hébert. Another highlight will be the premiere of Stephen Hatfield's "The Giver Has a Grateful Heart," performed by the Fredericton SchoolGirl Choir and Fredericton Youth Orchestra.

The last stop of the 2008 National Youth Choir's Maritime tour is a gala performance at Podium on the evening of Friday, May 16.

Canada Sings

This final concert of Podium of 2008 will feature performances by the Ottawa Bach Choir, conducted by Lisette Canton; Conspirato Chamber Singers of London, conducted for the last time by founding artistic director André-Louis Heywood; and Les Ms. of St. John's, conducted by Valerie Long.

May 25 - SUSSEX
Spring Concert

The Sussex Choral Society presents its annual spring concert on the evening of Sunday, May 25. The usual crowd-pleasing, eclectic program includes works by Handel, Tchaikovsky and Rutter, as well as folk songs, spirituals, show tunes, jazz and classic pop. Special guests include fiddlers and an oboist, as well as the Sussex Corner Grade 5 Choir. The Sussex Choral Society is directed by David Mitchell, with accompaniment by Karen Gallagher.
